Fred H. Wohlbier

Fred Wohlbier (PhD)  is a German-born Swiss materials scientist. He studied at the Technical University of Clausthal (Germany) and at the Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA) and worked as a Senior Scientist at the renowned Battelle Memorial Institute (Columbus, Ohio) before becoming the founding editor of the international periodicals, ‘Defect and Diffusion Forum’, ‘Key Engineering Materials’, ‘Materials Science Forum’ and ‘Solid State Phenomena’.

For many years, Fred Wohlbier has also been very interested in the philosophical interpretation of the results of scientific research. In line with the thinking of John A. Wheeler (“It from Bit”), Paul C.W. Davies, Lee Smolin and Anton Zeilinger (“Information is the fundamental substance of the universe”), he believes that the essence of Nature is information and communication. The universe, in this view, consists of information-processing events, rather than of material particles per se. These reflections have led to the books, ‘The Tree of Nature’ (published in 2013 by Trans Tech Publications Ltd) and ‘The Evolution of Meaning’ (published in 2014 by Trans Tech Publications Ltd). Up-dated e-books of these books have appeared in 2015 at Amazon.
